MEDICAL NEEDLING

Medical needling is a treatment designed to help shrink and bring back the bodies natural colouring to scars and stretch marks. We use a controlled trauma method, using a small configuration of needles and a specifically designed serum to stimulate the bodies melanocytes (the cells in our skin that contain the pigment called melanin) to take action and start to repair your area of concern. The results of this treatment are not only effective but life changing!

How long does a scar need to be healed before you can have medical needling?

Each scar will vary but usually 6 months, however much deeper scars should be left up to a year before we treat.

What is the aftercare for this treatment?

Cold compress - when you go through the healing process you may feel a little sensitive (it can be described similar to the feeling of sunburn) We recommend using a cold compress if you feel sore post treatment.

No perfumed products - when showering post treatment ensure you use luke warm water and nothing very perfumed or with active ingredients. Avoid scrubbing or harsh exfoliation.

No swimming - please do not swim in open water or swimming pools for 2 weeks post treatment.

No vigorous exercise for 48 hours - this can slow down the healing process and irritate the area treated.

Use ointment provided - no vaseline or petroleum based products to be applied to the area.

No sun beds, saunas or steam rooms for 7 days post treatment.

Use SPF on the area if exposed to the sun,

No other treatment to the area for 3 months (such as chemical peels, waxing, massage)

You cannot have laser on the treated area EVER!

Does this treatment hurt?

It can be mildly uncomfortable but nothing unbearable.

How many sessions will I need?

2-4 sessions are usually required for this type of treatment. If we feel we aren't seeing significant results we can move to scar camouflage.

SCAR CAMOUFLAGE

Using permanent ink we can create a custom colour mix to match your skin tone perfectly and make the areas of concern almost unrecognisable. We often recommend medical needling as a start to your treatment plan, to reduce scar size and see if the skin will naturally recolour first. However in some cases we can camouflage as a first step if required.

Scar camouflage is also extremely effective to help blend in transferred skin tissue post mastectomy (such as DIEP flap, TUG flap or LAP flap). We can even create small imperfections to make the area look even more natural, such as moles and freckles.
